Pika has been battling thoughts of self-destruction for years. Scared of her own increasing rage, Pika decides to try an unconventional approach to wellness, which inadvertently introduces her to a new world of gruesome deaths and terrifying uncertainty. Guided by three peculiar voices, Pika is taken on an intense journey that forces her to question the value of her own life.
I WANT TO LOVE MY OWN LIFE" follows Pika, a gay Black woman who has been suffering from untreated depression and anxiety. As the story opens, we find Pika in a strange shop that advertises peculiar remedies for peculiar ailments. We soon learn that Pika is desperate, and that she has come to the shop because no other doctors have been willing or able to help her with her increasing feelings of self-destruction. After a tense conversation, the shop owner sells Pika a powerful powder that leads to have violent and vivid hallucinations, which inadvertently explore Pika's relationships with love and death. In the end, Pika is brought to a moment of eery self-understanding and self-acceptance. "I WANT TO LOVE MY OWN LIFE" uses horrific elements and unique monsters to show the extreme outcomes that can occur when Black women's health and wellbeing is continually assaulted by society.
